If you want to be taken to Rio, and in the words of Rihanna, fly o' the ocean like an eagle, there are many magical moments to savour in this toe-tapping, carnival romp. It's a journey from domestication to emancipation for neurotic rare-bird Blu as he deals with his fears, such as lack of creature comforts, and a couple of adversaries in the form of Jewel's father Eduardo (Andy Garcia) and her previous boyfriend - the smoothly quiffed if slightly unstable Roberto, voiced in suitably cheesy splendour by Bruno Mars.

He's also got to face his new parental responsibilities to the trilling trio of Bia, Carla and Tiago.Meanwhile, favourite characters return like familiar, much-loved toys.Jemaine Clements' barbed, alliterative, bad-ass cockatoo Nigel will delight children and parents alike as he dreams up a deranged drama which sees him "pooping on your party promptly".He's joined in his roguish plans by pint-sized, poisonous frog Gabi - a brilliant character articulated by the vocally gifted Kristin Chenoweth, star of Glee, who comes into her own with a glorious rendition of 'Poisonous Love'.Comedic duo Will.I.Am and Jamie Foxx also return as Pedro the Canary and Nico the Cardinal bird, doing their bit to make it an invigorating ride through the music and movement of South America. The soundscape (featuring tracks by Janelle Monae and Wondaland) carries the film - its pace and rousing samba rhythm providing fertile ground from which both story and characters can happily spread their wings.

The choreography is stunning, particularly in 3D, with flocks of jungle birds whizzing around in synchronised circular formations to theme track 'Beautiful Creatures'. The swirls and eddies of colour and noise continue throughout this musical visual spectacle, flinging feel-good, hot holiday vibes at the captivated audience.Although slightly simple and predictable in narrative, there's enough Rio flavour - be it carnival, football, heat or culture - to keep the momentum. There's also a deeper,(Download Rio 2) over-arching environmental message, with the animals of the Amazon overcoming the threat from evil loggers. While effectively highlighting the destruction of rainforest for younger viewers, it's all the inspiration you need to fling the sat-nav aside and go wild in the great outdoors. In a more-is-less sequel overflowing with songs and slapstick, Jewel (voiced by Anne Hathaway), who's thrilled not to be endangered any more after her exploits in Rio, convinces her city slicker beau Blu (Jesse Eisenberg) to rediscover their rainforest roots when a flock of blue macaws is discovered deep in the Amazon.

Pushing its ecological message harder than before - the birds must defend their habitat against illegal loggers - it's the same mix of colourfully frantic action, sharp sight gags and catchy musical numbers. The best new character is toxic frog Gabi whose aria Poisonous Love is the highlight (thanks to Broadway star Kristen Chenoweth performing with real showbiz pizzazz). Elsewhere Jemaine Clement, returning as spiteful cockatoo Nigel, brings hilarious verve to a samba rap version of I Will Survive and many will enjoy The X Factor-style jungle auditions. However,(Download Rio 2) others may find everything just a little overbearing. This sequel to the 2011 animated feature presents such a relentlessly upbeat vision of Brazil that you guess it must have been made in conjunction with the Ministry of Tourism. Most of the drama unfolds deep in the Amazon forest where the macaws, Blue (voiced by Jesse Eisenberg), Jewel (Anne Hathaway) and their kids, have gone to get in touch with their roots – and perhaps to meet some old relatives. The plotting is utterly predictable. The carnival and football references soon begin to grate.

A rapacious businessman is busy cutting down the rainforest. City slicker Blue struggles to integrate with his wife's family members, who live in the wilds and disapprove of humans. Some of the musical sequences here are very clumsily integrated into the main action.Nonetheless,(Download Rio 2) there is enough colour, wit and inventiveness here to make this acceptable enough Easter holiday fare for children and adults alike. This sequel to the 2011 cartoon hit offers a sweetly relaxed introduction to the country hosting this year’s World Cup, with a starry voice cast including Jesse Eisenberg, Anne Hathaway and Bruno MarsThe timing is perfect for Carlos Saldanha’s sequel to 2011 cartoon hit Rio, which offers a sweetly relaxed introduction to the “hot” country hosting this year’s World Cup. Old friends Blue (Jesse Eisenberg) and Jewel (Anne Hathaway) find themselves in the Amazon jungle with their three kids. Also along for the ride is Nigel the cockatoo (Jemaine Clement), the applause-hungry thespian whose rap rendition of I Will Survive is one for the ages.

Bung in a demented frog, Bruno Mars and an eco-friendly sub-plot, and you have a cosy behemoth that kids (and even their parents) will find impossible to resist.More of the same (with a soupcon less sparkle) as our overly domesticated blue feathered friends head off to the Amazon in search of a flock of recently discovered stablemates. Jesse Eisenberg phones it in as fish-out-of-water Blu who stashes a GPS in his fanny pack to the dismay of nature-loving partner Jewel (Anne Hathaway) and her human-hating dad (Andy Garcia). Brazilian director Carlos Saldanha and his team of crack animators paint the vibrant, verdant settings in eye-catching detail,(Download Rio 2) providing ample visual distraction from the patchy plot (saving the rainforest, meeting the parents, putting on a show) which wibbles episodically from one set piece to the next. Top marks go to Jemaine Clement as vengeful luvvie cockatoo Nigel, whose Shakespearean rendition of I Will Survive rivals Peter Sellers's thespian reading of A Hard Day's Night.comparison: it's still visually colourful and sometimes witty, but the overcrowded story is all over the place, mixing wacky slapstick and corny satire with a political message.

And none of this is edgy enough to make it memorable, except perhaps the addition of one new character, a deranged poisonous frog with delusions of romance, voiced by the riotously operatic Kristin Chenoweth. At the centre again are the rare blue macaws Blu and Jewel (Jesse Eisenberg and Anne Hathaway), who now have three feisty kids at their bird sanctuary in Rio de Janeiro. Then their human keepers Tulio and Linda (Rodrigo Santoro and Leslie Mann) spot another blue macaw deep in the Amazon, so Blu and Jewel fly off to investigate with their children and buddies (including Will.i.am and Jamie Foxx). Sure enough, this turns out to be Jewel's long-lost family, overseen by her father (Andy Garcia) and guarded by her heartthrob ex Roberto (Bruno Mars).(Download Rio 2) But there's an evil logger threatening the rainforest, and Blu's old nemesis Nigel the cockatoo (Jemaine Clement) is out for revenge. After the oddly flat prologue in Rio, the film kicks up a gear when it arrives in the jungle, where the imagery becomes far more dense and colourful, leading to some wonderfully outrageous musical numbers and raucous action sequences.

The level of detail is impressive, as is the range of creatures thrown into the story. But the script never quite rises to this level of invention, once again simplistically putting the city-bird Blu in an alien natural environment, with added in-laws and ex-boyfriends. Much more fun is Nigel's interaction with his poison-frog sidekick, even if his subplot never builds any steam. It's as if the filmmakers decided that keeping things hectic and nutty would make up for any real sense of character or story.(Watch Rio 2 Online in DVD, HD) Children probably won't mind much, since there's a visual vibrance to the animation and general goofiness all around. And the voice cast really go for broke, adding energy to every scene. But with everything in motion, there's nothing to hold our focus. So even if we end up caring about saving the rainforest, nothing has managed to spark our imagination.
